Go to the new DM blog.

Christmas in July

This is cool:

Iraq's new governing council met Sunday for the first time, and its initial acts were to cancel all holidays "linked to the old dictatorial regime" and name April 9, the date of Saddam Hussein's fall, as a new national holiday.

There are other developments in Iraq, some not cool, but I'll leave them alone for now. Glad Iraqis are starting to get a bit of control over their country. And happy belated, uh...No More Saddam Day.

PS--I just looked on the CPA website to see if they had a press release. Not that I could see, but they do have this link on the front page: Know where Saddam is? It’s worth $25M…

[Update, 7:31PM: I was just thinking that maybe my title for this post could be offensive, given the subject is a council made up of mostly Muslims. Rather than engaging in revisionist blogging, I'll leave it there as my original intent was to highlight a change in holidays during, well, July. Comment if you have an opinion. Or not. Carry on.]
